Chalga Music



Chalga comes from the Turkish word alg, which means "musical instrument."

Chalga music as we know it now didn't begin until 1989, when communist rule came to an end. People began to revel at the fact that there were no longer any constraints on what they may listen to, and Chalga took off. Some detractors said that Chalga was solely about corruption, easy money, and indiscriminate sex, while many "regular" people have embraced it as an alternative to officialdom because of their newfound independence
